REGULATION
It is the responsibility of a business owner or responsible person for a building to ensure that fire extinguishers are inspected in accordance with BS5306
Stored Pressure Fire Extinguishers
Stored-pressure fire extinguishers are filled with compressed gas stored in a propellant bottle located in the bottom of the fire extinguisher. These fire extinguishers require no outside power to operate. The stored pressure fire extinguishers do not use a large initial spraying valve because this would increase the size and weight of the device.
The system is used on both liquid and dry chemical agent fire retardants. The size selection for these devices is also limited, typically ranging from 3,000 psi (206 bars) to 12,000 psi (743 bars). To be more particular, there are two types of stored-pressure fire extinguishers: Halotron I and II.
Cartridge Operated Extinguishers
Cartridge operated extinguishers are one of the most popular types of fire extinguishers in the UK. This is because they are highly effective and easy to use. Like all types of fire extinguishers, cartridge operated extinguisher comes with different ratings that indicate its effectiveness in certain types of fires. The main reason why people choose this type of fire extinguisher is because it is cheap, easy to use, and easy to store.
When you purchase a cartridge operated fire extinguisher, make sure that you select the right rating and cylinder size for your needs. In addition, please note that while this type of fire extinguisher is very effective for kitchen fires and other small fires, it may not be enough for larger fires.
